PAINTERS & DECORATORS INSURANCE
OUR EXPERIENCE WITH PAINTERS & DECORATORS
Atlantic has been looking after the Insurance needs of Painters and Decorators for the past 30 years.
Our experience extends to the Domestic Environment, Large Scale Commercial or Industrial Sites along with considerations around working at height. Like all other trades connected to the Building Industry we are currently experiencing a significant increase in claims activity. This has insurers being more particular about the type of risks they accept and if the wrong coverage is secured it could have implications in the event of a claim.

PAINTERS & DECORATORS COVERAGE CONSIDERATIONS
Most Painters and Decorators would be aware they require a Public and Products Liability Policy. A Public and Products Liability Policy covers against the Property Damage or Personal Injury sustained by a Third Party as a result of your negligence. In the case of a Painter this could involve an injury to a member of the public or even another contractor, damage to adjoining property as a result of overspray, spilling of paint and the like. Evidence of Public Liability Cover is almost always requested by the Builders you work with or the owners of the Homes, Councils and Commercial Property owners that call upon your services. Arranging Insurance for Painters and Decorators is not a one size fits all consideration. The working environment, type of painting and or spraying, turnover, level of cover, number of staff and heights worked at all need to be considered in arranging appropriate Insurances for a Painter and Decorator. Each of these factors can also influence premiums so it is especially important that accurate up to date information is gathered to ensure the most competitive premium and coverage can be secured.
In addition to the traditional Public and Products Liability policy, a Painter may also consider a Business Insurance Policy attached to Stock and Contents and a Commercial Motor Vehicle Policy covering company vehicles. A Tools of Trade policy attaching to ladders, trestles, drills and spray guns against damage or theft is also worth considering. PAINTERS & DECORATORS RISK – OUR OBSERVATIONS
As Insurers chase profitability, we are seeing an increase in policy conditions and exclusions attached to Painters and Decorators Policies especially around working at heights. As a Broker that specialises in arranging Insurance for Trades we know what to be mindful of in selecting appropriate Covers and wherever possible we look to secure the Policy which provides the broadest scope of cover with the least amount of conditions and exclusions at a competitive premium.
CURRENT CLAIMS LANDSCAPE
Painters and Decorators often require specialist equipment such as Scissor Lifts, Trestles and Lifters to complete more complex jobs. A common misconception is that Hire Companies will insure these items on the behalf of the Hirer for loss or damage. This is often not the case and you may be considerably out of pocket if any loss or damage to this equipment occurs whilst you have this equipment on hire, even if the loss / damage is not your fault. Speak with us today to discuss how we can extend your policies to ensure hired equipment is covered correctly.
