GLAZIERS INSURANCE
OUR EXPERIENCE WITH GLAZIERS
As you would expect, not every Insurer has an appetite to offer Insurance for Glaziers. Over time we have seen the installation of glass evolve from a basic domestic and quite uniform commercial installation involving a narrow range of products to a marketplace full of abundant designs and options now extending to full size wall panels many with an emphasis on thermal properties which makes this a significant investment, and for an insurer, a high-risk occupation.
It is important that you speak with one of our skilled Client Managers to ensure we understand your Business and Insurance needs and can source an appropriate Insurance solution.

GLAZIERS COVERAGE CONSIDERATIONS
In addition to the obvious need to provide Public Liability cover for a Glazier to protect against claims for a third party injury or property damage as a result of your negligence, consideration also needs to be given to vicarious liability which covers you for any conduct of your contractors or employees in carrying out work on your behalf. Care, Custody and Control is another inclusion especially important to a Glazier given the value of the items being installed. If you damage the glass owned by another party during the installation process, there is a potential avenue to claim under goods in your “Care Custody and Control”.
Often a Glazier will work from a business premise where they store and cut product to size. A Business Insurance Package can provide cover against Fire, Theft and Malicious Damage. If you do have a business premises our experienced Client Managers will work with you to formulate a range of coverage and excess options.
Trucks or Light commercial Vehicles and Trailers are often used by Glaziers to transport items to jobsites. The Vehicles and trailers are best covered under a commercial motor vehicle policy to avoid any implications in the case of a claim.
The glass and related items being transported can be covered under a Marine Transit Insurance Policy. This covers against damage as a result of fire, collision and overturning but can also extend to include loading and unloading, malicious acts and accidental damage. This policy can be structured to attach to a single shipment or can be an annual policy covering each transit for the 12 month period.
Other Insurances a Glazier could consider include Tools of the Trade covering ladders and scaffolds or Personal Accident and illness cover covers. Click below to find out more information on some of the common policies that we discuss with our Glazier Clients.

GLAZIERS RISK – OUR OBSERVATIONS
Incidents involving workplace injury are being closely examined and are more frequently leading to legal proceedings. For entities in high hazard industries a Management Liability policy is becoming a more common Insurance purchase. Not only does this provides the Owners of the Business with a level of protection via the Director and Officers cover, it also contains provisions to assist in instances of potential Employment Practices Liability claims and potential breaches of Occupational health and safety regulations which often remain undiscovered until after a claim and the intervention of a regulatory authority.
CURRENT CLAIMS LANDSCAPE
Insurers view Glaziers as having the potential for a combination of frequency and severity claims due to the nature of your occupation. The product you work with can be fragile and subject to regular breakages and in some cases these breakages could be linked to severe personal injuries. Our Client Managers can assist gathering the required information to approach a range of Insurers to determine the most appropriate Insurance solution for your Business. Given the range of covers a Glazier could consider, this could be arranged amongst several Insurers to deliver the best Insurance solution for your individual needs. Speak with us today.
